Day at the Monastery

Join us for a Day at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin on Saturday, December 3rd. We have planned a special day of reflection and fun at the Monastery for SFA students. • Sr. Mary John, the Prioress, will welcome the SFA students when they arrive at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus at 10 a.m. December 3rd. • After Sister’s welcome, we will have an opportunity for a little quiet time before the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel or private prayer and reflection on the Monastery grounds. • At 11 a.m., we will join the Nuns for a celebration of Mass. • At noon, we will break for lunch, group discussion, and sharing. • From 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., we will visit with the Nuns and hear their inspiring stories. • At 2:40 p.m., we will join the Nuns in the Chapel for the rosary and mid-afternoon prayer.

Podcasts

Living out here in the middle of the Pineywoods, we have to travel to get anywhere. One of the things I like to do is find podcasts that can help me build up my spiritual life. Here are a few to look over that you can download to learn more about your faith.

I got this message from Corp Prayer Resources yesterday. Please say a prayer for rain here in Texas.

Dear Intercessors.....
My brother is an electrical engineer in East Texas where he manages/oversees an electric plant, and said this week that the Texas electrical plants with cooling ponds are watching the lake levels as they cannot operate without adequate water to cool the equipment. His plant is 90 days out from closure and there is at least one plant in Texas that is only 30 days away from closure without divine intervention of rain. And once the plant closes, it is quite a process to get it up and on line again.....so our rain problems are now critical for another reason.

BUT, God keeps bringing this song to me...

Our beloved Father,
please come down and meet us,we are waiting on Your touch...
Open up the heavens, shower down Your presence,we respond to Your great love...
We won't be satisfied with anything ordinary,we won't be satisfied at all...
Open up the sky, fall down like rain,
We don't want blessings, we want You!!
Open up the sky, fall down like fire,
We don't want anything, but You !
We won't be satisfied with anything ordinary, we won't be satisfied at all...

I believe this should be our prayer...desperate for HIM. He is our all in all. He is our answer.

Can I make a suggestion? play this at your prayer meetings, use this link to play in your own prayer time....let's get this cry from our hearts deep down in our souls, spirits, minds, very beings...WE DON'T WANT ANYTHING BUT YOU !!!

Soul Wow! -Confession

A Special Report (in recognition of Coerced Abortion Awareness Week)
by Elliot Institute

Most abortions are unwanted or coerced. Many are forced.

From deceptive or coercive counseling to job and housing discrimination, pregnancy- or abortion-related violence or even homicide – the leading killer of pregnant women – abortion endangers women and children.

After abortion, women are further at risk as most suffer symptoms of trauma, death rates are nearly 4 times higher, and, in the first year after abortion, suicide rates are 6 times higher.

Abortion is endangering, maiming and killing women, too:

* When his wife refused to abort, her husband jumped on her stomach until their baby died . . .
* A daughter was pushed into an abortion clinic at gunpoint by her mother . . .
* Outside a parking garage, a physician shouted, “I’m giving you an abortion!” as he injected the mother of his child with an abortifacient drug . . .
* A school counselor ridiculed the student and put her on the weekly bus to the abortion clinic . . .
* A homeless woman was denied shelter until she had an abortion . . .
* A 13-year-old was returned to her molester after he took her in for a cover-up abortion . . .
* A waitress was fired after refusing to abort ...

Splinters From the Cross

Little headaches, little heartaches

Little griefs of every day,

Littler trials and vexations,

How they throng around our way!

One great cross, immense and heavy,

So it seems to our weak will,

Might be born with resignation,

But these many small ones kill.

Yet all life is formed of small things,

Little leaves, make up the trees,

Many tiny drops of water

Blending, make the mighty seas,

Let us not then by impatience

Mar the beauty of the whole,

But for love of Jesus bear all

In the silence of our soul,

Asking Him for grace sufficient

To sustain us through each loss,

And to treasure each small offering

As a splinter from His Cross.

Budgeting

Since we had Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace class last semester, I thought this was an interesting way to explain our national budget in simple terms.

“Financial advisor Dave Ramsey put forth an interesting scenario recently on his nationally syndicated radio call-in program. Taking a hypothetical phone call from John Q. Public and his wife, We the People, in one brief illustration Ramsey demonstrated that no one in Washington, D.C., is really serious about cutting spending.
Ramsey has a way of boiling large numbers down to their essence and showing us the absurdity of our debt crisis. In his radio example, his callers — “John” and “We” — are earning $58,000 a year. However, they are spending $75,000 a year. More importantly, they have credit card debt totaling $327,000. In fact, $10,000 of the family’s income goes just to pay interest on those credit cards.“Now, what would you expect my advice to this couple to be?” Ramsey asked his radio audience. He then proceeded to say that if he followed the current model of “cuts” being proposed in Washington, his recommendation would be that they reduce their annual expenditures by a mere $3,000 — all the way down to $72,000.Ramsey has a way of boiling large numbers down to their essence and showing us the absurdity of our debt crisis. In his radio example, his callers — “John” and “We” — are earning $58,000 a year. However, they are spending $75,000 a year. More importantly, they have credit card debt totaling $327,000. In fact, $10,000 of the family’s income goes just to pay interest on those credit cards.
Ramsey has calculated that these numbers are in exact proportion to the actions of our federal government in dealing with our deficit. However, instead of terms like “billions” and “trillions,” to which no one can relate, Ramsey has reduced the numbers to one we can all comprehend. Anyone with a brain can figure out that a family making $58,000 and spending $75,000, with $327,000 in credit card debt, is headed for bankruptcy — or worse."

Adoration

Spur of the moment Potluck for visiting FOCUS Coordinators

This week-end, the Vigils, a young couple who well may be the FOCUS coordinators for our campus beginning Fall 2011, will be coming to Nacogdoches to visit.  The Vigils have five children and will be visiting here this coming Friday afternoon and Saturday.  We would appreciate a terrific turnout of our Leadership Committee members, faculty, staff, students that are around, community (including Man Club), families, etc. for this Friday, March 18 at 6:00 pm potluck dinner!  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to introduce yourselves to this family.

The FOCUS "Fellowship of Catholic University Students" program is one of the most coveted Catholic programs in the U.S. right now.  Many universities are trying to get to the top of the list in order to have the privilege of having four FOCUS missionaries on their college campuses.  The program has a known track record of successfully evangelizing the Gospel to college students.  Fr. Paul's efforts have been successful in raising funds (some of you have helped with this), and his attendance at a conference with 10 of our students has put us in a favorable position for this wonderful opportunity.  Please come and meet the Vigils and support this new chapter in our SFA campus ministry!

Please REPLY to Kim by tomorrow (Wednesday) evening 8 pm with what you intend to bring.  If you are unable to bring food or drink, that's OK, just let us know that you plan to attend and bring yourselves!

Blessings,
Linda Parr
